How can I move between Gold, Platinum and Executive tiers?
Written by Daphne Lim - Updated
As you’ve seen on our pricing page and information about tiers, KIS Academics has a variety of tutoring tiers. We use these tiers to cater to students and parents who have different requirements and budgets.
In general, when hiring, we consider a few criteria:
- 97+ ATAR at the very least
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Shared values and purpose with KIS Academics
- High subject scores for the subjects you want to tutor
- State rankings/awards at school
- Previous tutoring experience
When allocating tutors to tiers, we consider A LOT of factors including things that are completely out of control such as the supply/demand of various tiers. Our main priority with these tiers is making sure that parents and students will not just be satisfied, but delighted with the tutor they've been allocated.
Probation ($35/h pay)
Tutors who join our platform with little teaching experience will fall under this rate, just so we have reassurance of the quality you promised us during the interview! Luckily, it's a simple process to get your first promotion:
1. Complete 10 paid lessons on our platform
2. Have a clean record of demerit points (this means you need to have 0 points)
If you have 1 or more demerit points, have completed 10+ lessons, but haven't been promoted, send a message into slack #help chat and we'll be able to review your record to see if you're eligible for promotion.
When you're promoted, you'll receive an exciting message on Slack. After this, your hourly rate across all pairings will increase to $40.
Gold ($40/h pay)
Proving to us that you have good communications skills, past teaching experience, and are confident in your teaching abilities will land you here!
If you meet all the criteria above, make it successfully through our hiring process and interviews, congratulations! You've made it to our Gold Tier! You also get bonus payouts to reward you for your dedication and loyalty.
Platinum ($60/h pay)
To be hired as a platinum tutor, you are usually required to have:
- graduated in the top 1% of their cohorts in Year 12
- ATAR above 99, or an equivalent to this
- performed phenomenally and has a stellar track record
To become a Platinum tutor, you must have:
- shown commitment to KIS Academics, i.e. responding to tutors and parents in a timely fashion after requests, getting back to Slack messages within 24 hours, remaining active and engaged with messages and announcements on Slack, and maintaining excellent communication with any KIS team members you work with
- worked with KIS Academics for at least a couple of years
- gained at least 3 5-star reviews from the students and parents you tutored
- completed at least 50 lessons
These expectations are set because parents and students really care about deep subject knowledge and performance in those subjects, and KIS Academics cares about dedication and great communication. If you fulfil all of these criteria, you'll be eligible for the Platinum Tier.
| If you believe you meet the criteria to get promoted, please send a message to Jeff Ma on Slack. If everything checks out, he will move you up to Platinum! |

KIS Academics reserves the right to allocate tutors to one of the private tutoring tiers, change the private tutoring tier of a tutor and modify tutor listings and student-facing profiles at the full discretion of KIS Academics Administration staff. Tutors may request promotions to higher tutoring levels at any time, however there is no guarantee of this.
Executive ($100/h pay)
Executive tutors are the cream of the crop in the tutoring field. We usually limit Executive tutors to 1-2 per state. As a general rule, you’ll instantly be up for consideration to be a Executive tutor if you can fulfil these criteria:
- 99.85+ ATAR (exceptions can be made)
- 5 years of tutoring experience
- Responsive and reliable in all communications to students, parents, and KIS Academics Admin team
- At least 5x 5 star reviews. You can follow the outline here
- At least 200 lessons completed
| If you believe you meet the criteria to get promoted, please send a message to Jeff Ma on Slack. If everything checks out, he will move you up to Executive! |

Expectations of Tutors
It is crucial to note that the core responsibility of being a great doesn't change much between tiers. All you need to do is to sit down with a student, connect with them and teach them. Hence, before we move you to a higher tier, we must ensure that you are sufficiently competent. Otherwise, we are misleading our customers and sabotaging their learning experience!
Will my current students have to pay more if I move up a tier?
All your current students will be maintained at your current tier as it is wrong for us to increase prices for customers when they had previously agreed to a set price. It is required that you keep these students at whatever tier they requested you until they no longer require your services.
But as soon as you’ve moved up a tier, all future requests will be charged at your newly upgraded tier.
Can I move down a tier?
Yes, you can. Some tutors have asked to be moved down a tier after getting promoted, and it's just because there is a higher demand for gold tier tutors. So some tutors may find it more beneficial to remain at a lower tier, and you can decide to move down a tier if you want to, just contact Jeff Ma on Slack to discuss this!
