Expectations of English Tutors at KIS

Written by Daphne Lim - Updated

Tutoring English is a beneficial but demanding job at KIS Academics, and that is because you are required to teach ALL texts, even if you did not study that in high school.

English Tutor Requirements

You are required to teach ALL texts. This means both Year 11 AND Year 12 content (or Y5 - Y10 content, if you are so inclined).

It also means when you receive a request from an English student, you will be required to take them on irrespective of their studied text and continue lessons to the best of your ability! So please only select English if you are comfortable with tutoring ALL texts.

The reason we have this requirement is that we fully believe in your ability to competently upskill students in generalised essay-writing (in most cases improving expressions and syntax is all that’s needed).

Of course, we do not just throw you off the deep end without a buoy. As an English tutor, you get access to exclusive resources to aid you.

English Tutoring Resources

Here at KIS Academics, we have an initiative called the "KIS English Resource Sharing Program". It's a compendium of summary essays, detailed notes, and informative PowerPoint slides from our highest-scoring English tutors.

So if you ever need greater insights for a text that you did not study while in high school, feel free to explore our English Resource Sharing Program for detailed notes and sample essays from our high-scoring English tutors, or visit sparknotes/litcharts/cliffnotes for summaries, quotes & sample analysis.

We believe you will do an excellent job so please believe in your own abilities too! It may seem daunting at the start but tutoring English is incredibly enjoyable and rewarding. It's by far the most popular subject that receives the most requests

If you have further questions, shoot a message to #help channel on Slack, or send an email to contact@kisacademics.com
