Why am I getting so few New Requests?

Written by Daphne Lim - Updated

Do not worry, there are a few different reasons why this is happening!

Firstly, understand how we push out tutor profiles. KIS Academics' find a tutor page and our sales affiliate recommendations all follow a “weighted random” algorithm:

  1. It is weighted to favour available tutors with the lowest number of student pairings. This is to show new tutors and tutors with fewer pairings to customers and encourage them to make requests.

  2. The Find a Tutor page is also randomised every few hours, to ensure we always display new tutors. If your profile was at the back when you looked, check again in a few hours and it should be in a new location!

So why are you not getting any new requests?

1. Time of the Year

Based on the time of the year, you might just be experiencing the slow season (namely November - January). At the end of the academic year, students would have finished with their final exams and have no need for a tutor at this point, so there will be very little new requests.

However, this will pick up again closer to February when the new school year starts.

2. Location

We have been getting more requests for in-person tutoring, so if you have not already, now is a great time to add some in-person locations to your tutoring profile to get more students.

3. Clear old Pairings

As mentioned above, our algorithm favours available tutors with fewer student pairings. So if it's February and you still have some pairings from the last year that you're not tutoring anymore, it is time to clear it.

Deactivate all pairings that you are no longer tutoring asap.

4. Update your Profile

If it is already February and you're still not getting students, we highly encourage you to:

  1. Update your profile. Here is a guide.
  2. Ensure your availability is switched "on" on the KIS App.
