What if I can't take on a new student request?

Written by Daphne Lim - Updated

If you are paired with a student and can’t take them on for the medium to long term, then you must notify KIS Academics IMMEDIATELY by following this article.

To ensure customers find the help they are after, please make sure to keep your availability, subjects and profile as up to date as possible to prevent these situations from happening.

1. Firstly, you MUST contact the customer to apologise and let them know you're unable to take them on, but that KIS will suggest an alternative tutor for them.

2. Please email contact@kisacademics.com immediately and one of our team members will sort out an alternative tutor for the client.

Information to include in the email to us:

- Name of student

- Email of student (Check KIS App)

- Reason for not taking them on

3. Please remember to deactivate the pairing from the KIS App as well

I just need a Temporary Replacement Tutor

Perhaps you're going on exchange, or placements, but wish to still come back to tutoring this student. You can absolutely find a replacement, just refer to this article: I need to find a Temporary Replacement Tutor!

Reliability Policy

KIS Academics has a reliability policy in place to ensure that all tutors and students are treated fairly.

This reliability policy aims to eradicate the issue of tutors leaving their students either during the initial meeting period with a new student, after the first lesson with a new student, after a few lessons, or after a large number of lessons, without a truly valid reason. Given our values as a company, being ‘busy with exams’ or ‘having too much on your plate’ is not what we consider a fair excuse for leaving a student high and dry. When a tutor begins with a student, this is a commitment to their success in their studies. This is why KIS Academics recommends tutors to commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week.

Finally, with respect to the mode of tutoring (either in-person or online), if you wish to switch modes (e.g. from in-person to online lessons), or if a student wishes to switch modes of tutoring, then both parties (student and tutor) must agree to such a transition. A forced transition of tutoring mode must not be imposed on the student without their consent.

If you have any other questions, feel free to shoot a message into #help channel on Slack, or send an email to contact@kisacademics.com
