How to make your profile stand out

Written by Daphne Lim - Updated

Making your profile to stand out amongst a group of Australia’s best tutors can be challenging. The unfortunate reality is that very often, parents and students will pay a disproportionate amount of attention on the ATAR you received, rather than your actual tutoring ability 😪

But that doesn’t mean you will always be disadvantaged in the competitive tutoring market. It just means the customer needs some more convincing. We've created Manoj's profile as an example: Manoj's Profile

Here are some time-tested strategies and tips that the KIS team has collated over the years that will help you get more students than you can manage 🤩

A great photo 📸

You don’t need a professional photographer for this, but a high quality, friendly, smiling photo goes a long way. Ideally not a selfie! Check out Manoj’s photo on his profile for reference.

A fleshed-out tutor bio 📕

We recommend writing at least 200-300 words (if not more) for your biography. As a high-achieving individual, this is where you should feel free to flex your past achievements - the more impressive you sound, the more likely students will select you as their tutor!

A quick discussion of your hobbies and interests will help you sound more human, and establishes an instant rapport. We’ve had students request tutors in the past because they share the same interests or career aspirations. For reference, check out Manoj's Bio.

Filming an excellent introductory video 🎥

Tutors with an introductory video gets far more requests than those who don’t. It’s a valuable opportunity to make a great first impression, so the customer is more likely to trust you and your ability. It only takes 2 minutes to film. Click here to get started: Videoask Add

Add more subjects 🧪

We strongly encourage you to add as many subjects as you can comfortably teach. Some of the most popular subjects include:

      • Y11-12 English
      • Y11-12 Maths subjects (Dependent on state)
      • Y11-12 Chemistry
      • Y5-10 English
      • Y5-10 Maths
      • Y11-12 Biology
      • Y11-12 PhysicS

HOWEVER: If you list a subject on your profile, you MUST be happy to tutor it when a request comes through. If you list subjects you aren't comfortable with, odds are you'll end up not wanting to take on the student anyway if the request comes through and we'll have to re-pair them with another tutor.

Past Student Reviews ⭐️

If you have past tutoring experiences, the most important thing you can do is to reach out and ask them to leave you a review here:

We recommend completing at least 8 lessons with a student in order to show them that you’re an effective and reliable tutor before asking for a review

Here’s a sample message you can send:

Hi _____! Hope you’re doing well. Just wanted to ask if you could do me a huge favour. Would you mind leaving me a tutoring review on google ( https://g.page/KIS-Academics/review?rc ) or trustpilot ( https://www.trustpilot.com/review/kisacademics.com )? Just mention my name somewhere in the review. It would mean a lot to hear your feedback, and I hope you’ve been enjoying the sessions! Thanks so much

We will then populate the reviews to your profile!

These are just a few helpful tips to make your profile standout. If you think there are other ways to improve your profile that isn't a feature we have yet, feel free to throw your suggestion out to #help channel on Slack or send us a an email at contact@kisacademics.com
