Why do you have to do a Free Study Skills consultation session?

Written by Daphne Lim - Updated

We sometimes get asked by tutors why we offer a free 30 minute session to our customers.

While it may be 30 minutes that have no guarantee of paying off, it's the right thing to do, and that's a hill we're willing to die on. Students have no guarantee that the tutor they're meeting is any good, so offering a 30 minute free consultation shows confidence. We're confident in the skills our tutors (you) have. We're so confident students will love your services that we'll give them a 30 minute free session. And if they don't continue? That's all good - at least we did the right thing and gave them the freedom to make an informed choice.

How do I ensure Students decide to Proceed from Consultation Session

We do our best to ensure that the trial system doesn't get exploited, and only 8% of our leads decide to stop tutoring after the trial lesson, mostly because the tutor-student pairing just wasn't a good fit.

So, you just need to do your best to delight your student during that first meeting, and of course, maintain the same level of professionalism throughout the time you tutor them. Learn how to impress during a study skills consultation here.

What if my Student does not want to have a Free Consultation?

Sometimes students may be eager to begin lessons asap and refuse to have a free consultation. That is something that you can do, but make sure you have it in writing that they do not want the free consultation. This article contains a message template you can send them: What if my Student wants to Skip the Study Skills Consultation?

We need the written confirmation in case students come asking us why they were charged for the first lesson when they are entitled to a free 30 minute session.
