What do I do on the KIS App if my student doesn't want to start lessons right now?

In most cases, when you've already started doing lessons with a student and they want a "pause" between lessons, the easiest thing to do is to set them to "Paused" on the KIS App. However, this can only be done if the pairing has done at least 1 prior session.

How to "Pause" a Trial or First Lesson?

If your student wants to "pause" and delay the trial lesson or the first lesson, you won't be able to set them as "Paused" in the KIS App. Instead, here's what you do:

  1. Let the student know that while you're happy to keep a spot for them, you will need a timeline on when they'd like a study skills consultation or a first lesson, just to be fair to your other students and any other requests that may come through.
This is only fair so that the customer doesn't "lead you on" and then ultimately decide not to do lessons at all, or do lessons super infrequently

A message like the following should suffice:
No stress if you want to start a bit later! I just need to know an approximate
date for when you'd like to start. This is so I can add it to my calendar for KIS
and save you a slot. How does [INSERT_SUGGESTED_DATE] sound?

This date can be anytime in the future, and ideally, the approximate time when the student would like to do their trial lesson or commence their formal lessons.
ie. if a student would like to start lessons after the summer holidays, suggest a date at the start of Term 1 in February

  2. Then, once you have decided on a future date for your study skills consultation/first lesson with the student, add this date to the KIS App!

This is a super common scenario for tutoring requests during school holidays, where students or parents want to lock a tutor in, but don't want to begin lessons until the term starts.

This ensures that your student and you both receive reminders to reach out and organise a lesson closer to your determined date, and it ensures that our customer service team know the approximate timeline of when you'll be doing your study skills consultation or first lesson.

Help! I cannot edit the date!

Sometimes stuff happens and the planned lesson or trial doesn't happen on the agreed upon date, so you have to reschedule it for later.

On our previous Tutorpay platform, you were able to edit the dates, but not with the new KIS App. So if you get our chase up about a missed trial or lesson date, please just reply to let us know you're still in contact with the student, and have another lesson planned.

We just need to know that you are still in contact and direct communication with the student.

What happens if they ghost me after this?

Setting a trial date is beneficial for you as a tutor as it encourages a certain degree of commitment from the customer so you don't end up getting ghosted. But if a student does ghost you, follow the steps in the linked article.
