The KIS Recruitment Process
Written by Daphne Lim - Updated
Here's a little overview of the recruiting and hiring process for tutors at KIS Academics:
- We often do outbound hiring, meaning we'll find out about you first, then contact you about joining KIS. In contrast, inbound hiring refers to you finding KIS and then applying for a job. We do a bit of both inbound and outbound hiring - you might have gotten in touch with us via either method!
- One of our managers will organise a time with you for a brief interview. They'll grill you (gently!) and decide if you'll be a good fit for our team
- If you pass the interview, you'll be given a link to our KIS Academics Private Tutor Profile Setup form.
-
This link will lead you to this training program! You're currently at this step. After completing this training program, you'll receive a code that'll let you continue and complete the KIS Academics Private Tutor Profile Setup process. This is where you'll put in all the important details we need to set you up and get you started as a KIS tutor.
-
Complete your profile in the form. This is what a completed profile will look like on the KIS Academics website. A few things to keep in mind:
- Your Bio section is super important. Say a little something about yourself! Feel free to keep it lighthearted. You can talk about what you’re studying now, what your hobbies are, why you’re a good tutor and what you offer to your students.
- Please make sure your bios are well written.
- DO mention what you're studying at university.
- DON'T mention your high school graduation year, or what year you are at University (otherwise your bios will need updating every year)
- Be sure your bio is in line with what subjects you're offering tutoring for (Don't be too year 12 specific if you've put down that you tutor younger year levels. ie. "I'll teach you using my experience in year 12" would be better written as "I'll teach you using my experience in high school" if you want to teach Year 5-10 Maths)
- If everything goes smoothly, then you'll be invited to join our Slack channel at the end of the KIS Academics Private Tutor Profile Setup form. Once you're in our Slack channel, you're pretty much good to go 🎸
A few important things to have when signing up:
- A valid Employee/Paid Work Working with Children's Check/Blue Card. Each state has a different process and policies for a WWCC, but in most cases you'll be able to apply fully online, and receive your card within a few weeks if you don't already have one. In some states, you might need to provide proof of identity in person.
If you've got a volunteer card, you'll still need to apply for an Employee/Paid Work card. For now, you can use your old WWCC, but apply for a new one IMMEDIATELY. Failure to do this on your part is illegal. Here are the links to relevant application websites:

As long as you've completed an application and uploaded it when finishing our KIS Academics Private Tutor Profile Setup form, you'll still be able to complete child related work while your application is processing.
- An Australian Business Number (ABN). You should be able to apply for this and receive it instantly!
