Using the Content Editor for blog posts
Written by Daphne Lim - Updated
When writing a blog post for KIS Academics, you may be recommended to use the Content Editor.
This is to ensure that your blog post is of a high-enough quality to appear when someone searches for the topic on Google. You will be provided with a link to the content editor upon being hired for a blog writing job.
When to use the Content Editor for Blog Posts
We recommend using the content editor only after you're done writing your first draft in Word or Google Doc.
Don't use the content editor to write the first draft of your article. Writing the article in Word or a Google Doc will be a better starting point as you will be able to focus on purely writing a great blog post.
Once you are done writing in Word or a Google Doc, copy and paste your writing into the Content Editor to see what minor changes you can make to improve.
In the content editor, the goal is to achieve a "Content Score" of 66+ to ensure your work is up to Google's standard. There is no need to aim for a perfect score of 100 (we all know tutors love to aim for those high marks!)
Changes the Content Editor may suggest
The content editor will suggest simple changes such as:
- Adding more headings or subheadings
- Separating your writing into shorter paragraphs
- Adding relevant images to explain your writing better. If you don't have specific images to include, you're welcome to find relevant stock photos from Unsplash
- Adding the optimal number of keywords from the "Terms" list into your writing
Ultimately, high quality writing is the most important thing. If you can't achieve a score over 66 and have put in reasonable effort, that's okay! A score above 66 will just increase the likelihood of Google favouring your writing and placing it at the top.
Please note: Any wordcount provided in the job posting will override the content score recommended in the Content Editor. Disregard the wordcount provided in the Content Editor
